When last we left our intrepid heroes, they were hot on the trail of a murderer. Pixie Switch, the geisha-esque Table Lady and carnivale battle-axe twirler; Tinpoo, the Russian carnivale bear-wrestler, trusting no one but his chimerical, alcoholic teddy bear; and an assassin with no name, solving problems for her drug syndicate with a professional’s discretion and a dancer’s grace.
They are Changelings – half faerie, half human – walking the razor’s edge between maddening Bedlam and soul-crushing Banality.
The year is 1925. The place is Weimar Berlin. A chaotic, shadowy world of burlesque cabarets, political violence, and things that go bump in the night.
A changeling has been gunned down at the Carnivale of Souls, and our heroes have found the only witness, a Boot Girl named Hedwig with a Cold Hand. Inside the Cafe Domino, Pixie Switch and the assassin weave a complex web of interrogation, while on the street outside, Tinpoo, waylayed and infanticized by the other Boot Girls, is as yet unaware of the stranger in his midst…
